The session continued with a pre-departure briefing delivered by Sophie Dwiyanti, Head of the Module Team, who explained the implementation guidelines for the Overseas Medical Student Elective Program. She emphasized that the program provides students with a valuable opportunity while also requiring them to achieve several predetermined learning outcomes.
“There are at least four objectives that we expect students to achieve through this program: broadening their understanding of global health systems, gaining cross-cultural clinical, community, or research experience, improving communication, adaptability, and professionalism, and encouraging benchmarking against global standards of clinical education,” she explained.
To achieve these objectives, Sophie explained that the elective program offers four main pathways: Clinical Attachment, Community Health Program, Medical Research Elective, and Public Health/NGO Internship.
Meanwhile, Head of the Medical Study Program, dr. Marita Fadhilah, Dr.Med.Sc., explained various forms of academic and technical support available to students during their studies abroad. She also encouraged students to undertake every stage of the program diligently to ensure that both the implementation and evaluation process run effectively.
“To all students, I hope you will remain diligent so that all programs and targets can be carried out successfully and produce strong outcomes, including publications and effective communication,” she said.
Head of the Medical Profession Study Program, dr. Risahmawati, Ph.D., also reminded students to maintain their health and uphold Islamic values while abroad. Her message was echoed by other faculty leaders, who emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with the faculty whenever students encounter difficulties during the program.
“If you experience difficulties in completing your logbook or achieving the required outcomes, please contact the module team, the head of the study program, or the secretary of the study program. We can provide suggestions and assistance. If the issue is reported early, we can help maximize your academic activities there,” she explained.
At the end of the pre-departure session, the heads of the study programs, secretary of the study program, and module team expressed their full support for the participating students. They also provided practical advice and useful tips to help students adapt and make the most of their academic and cultural experiences abroad.
