FK Marks UIN Jakarta's 69th Anniversary with Mass Circumcision Program as Community Service Initiative

Pondok Gede, FK Online News – As part of the 69th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) celebration of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) organized a mass circumcision program for the community at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Hospital in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, on Sunday (July 5).

A total of 100 children, ranging in age from 20 months to 14 years, participated in the program. The initiative was carried out through a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine (FK), the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Hospital, with Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) serving as the main partner.

The procedures were performed by 11 surgeons assisted by 11 operator assistants. They were supported by 30 medical professional students (clinical clerks/co-assistant doctors) and 20 sixth-semester preclinical medical students who joined the program as observers. Circumcision procedures were conducted using either the conventional surgical method (minor set) or electrocautery, depending on each participant's medical condition.

In addition to the medical procedure, every participant received a care package consisting of meals, souvenirs, a bag, sarong, tumbler, lunch box, children's snack package, medications, and post-operative care education. Parents also attended educational sessions on pre-circumcision preparation and post-operative care delivered by lecturers from the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta and Chair of the 69th Anniversary Organizing Committee, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS., emphasized that the program reflects the university's commitment to serving society.

"This mass circumcision program is not only part of the 69th Anniversary celebration of UIN Jakarta, but also a manifestation of the university's commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly community service. It demonstrates that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is an inseparable part of the community and will continue to contribute meaningful benefits to society," he said.

He expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future so that the university's contributions could be felt not only by its academic community but also by the wider public.

"God willing, this program will bring blessings, and we will continue to provide benefits not only for the UIN Jakarta academic community but also for society at large," he added.

Director of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Hospital, dr. Syaifullah, MARS., MM., FISQua., FIHFAA., stated that the mass circumcision marked the beginning of a series of community service programs commemorating the university's anniversary.

"We are grateful to begin the anniversary celebration with this mass circumcision program. It will be followed by blood donation drives, seminars, and public health education activities as part of our ongoing commitment to community service carried out by the hospital in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the university," he explained.

According to him, collaboration among various units within UIN Jakarta has become a key strength in delivering meaningful healthcare services to the community.

Medical professional students from the Faculty of Medicine also played an active role throughout the program. Muhammad Faiza Ma'ruf, a clinical clerk at the Faculty of Medicine, explained that participants first underwent registration and physical examinations before the procedure.

"After the physical examination conducted by the operating physicians and assisted by clinical clerks, eligible participants proceeded directly to the circumcision. Following the procedure, we provided education on post-circumcision care, including activities that should and should not be performed, and distributed medications before the participants returned home," he said.

For the medical students, the program also served as valuable clinical training while reinforcing the importance of community-oriented healthcare.

The event attracted enthusiastic participation from families across several regions. Lia Yuliani, a parent from Depok, expressed her appreciation for the services provided by the medical team at UIN Jakarta Hospital.

"The service was excellent. The medical staff were responsive, communicative, and everything went smoothly. This was our first time participating in a mass circumcision program here, and we are very satisfied," she said.

Another parent, Imam, from Pasar Rebo, also welcomed the program and hoped it would continue in the future.

"I'm very happy that my son has completed his circumcision here. I hope UIN Jakarta Hospital continues to grow and achieve greater success," he remarked.

Meanwhile, dr. Awan Wicaksana, a 2018 alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine, highlighted that community service is an essential responsibility of healthcare professionals.

"The knowledge we acquire should be shared with society. Those who have the opportunity to pursue higher education carry the responsibility of dedicating their knowledge to the community. Therefore, community service is not merely an additional activity but a fundamental obligation for both academics and healthcare professionals," he said.

Through this mass circumcision program, the Faculty of Medicine reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a higher education institution that excels not only in education and research but also in delivering tangible benefits to society. The celebration of UIN Jakarta's 69th Anniversary will continue with various social and public health programs, including blood donation campaigns, seminars, and health education activities involving both the university community and the public.
