PPG Campus, FK News Online – The 69th Anniversary celebration of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta was not only marked by ceremonial activities but also by initiatives that provide direct benefits to the community. As part of its commitment to promoting women’s health, a mammography screening program was held at the UIN Jakarta PPG Campus on Friday (21/8/2026). The activity, aimed at early detection and prevention of breast cancer among healthy women, was conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Breast Cancer Foundation (YKPI) and was attended by approximately 50 participants.

The event was attended by the Dean of FK UIN Jakarta and Chairperson of the Spectra 69th Anniversary Committee, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS.; Vice Dean for General Administration, Planning, and Finance, Dr. dr. Erike Anggraini Suwarsono, M.Pd., Sp.M.K.; Head of the Medical Education Program, dr. Marita Fadhilah, Dr.Med.Sc.; Head of the Medical Professional Program, Risahmawati, Ph.D.; Head of FK Administration Division, Sundus Nuzulia, S.Sos., M.Si.; Vice Chairperson of YKPI, Titien Pamudji; General Practitioner specializing in oncology with a focus on cancer education services at YKPI, dr. Martha Roida Manurung; along with other officials and participants.

In his opening remarks, Dean of FK UIN Jakarta, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, stated that the mammography screening program had been planned for nearly one year. Although the implementation had previously faced obstacles, the successful realization of the program in 2026 became an achievement that could provide meaningful benefits to society.

“Today’s activity is not merely ceremonial, but can provide direct impacts on the community through health services. The ratio of male and female students at FK is quite different, around 30:70. Therefore, I believe it is important to ensure that the health of future generations, especially women, is maintained so they can remain healthy and productive. This is also important as we move toward Indonesia 2045. We hope that Indonesian society will have better health in the future,” he explained.

Dr. Zaki expressed his hope that the mammography screening program would not stop in 2026 but could continue as an annual initiative every August. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining the program as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time event.

Supporting this statement, YKPI Vice Chairperson Titien Pamudji explained that breast cancer remains one of the biggest health challenges and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Indonesian women. Based on available data, there are approximately 66,000 new breast cancer cases in Indonesia.

“Therefore, the vision of the breast cancer foundation is to create an Indonesia free from advanced-stage breast cancer,” she stated.

She also introduced several YKPI programs, including breast cancer early detection campaigns, breast self-examination education, the operation of disability-friendly mobile mammography units, breast cancer patient training, and capacity-building programs for community health cadres. “We stand with the tagline ‘Saling Jaga, Saling Peduli’ (Take Care of Each Other, Care for One Another),” she added.

Completing the educational session, dr. Martha Roida Manurung provided information regarding early breast cancer detection. She explained that YKPI promotes three methods of early detection: Breast Self-Examination (SADARI), Clinical Breast Examination by Healthcare Professionals (SADANI), and supporting examinations conducted by medical personnel.

She emphasized that breast cancer often does not show noticeable symptoms in its early stages and usually becomes more apparent when the tumor has grown larger. Several warning signs include skin changes resembling orange peel texture, lumps in the breast area, inverted nipples, and unusual discharge from the nipple other than breast milk.

Dr. Martha also expressed her hope that this activity could become a sustainable collaboration. “This is the first time this screening has been conducted. God willing, this will become our commitment to continue increasing awareness about breast cancer among the academic community and society. Hopefully, this program can continue,” she said.

The mammography screening was conducted from 08.00 to 12.00 WIB and began with an educational session for participants. The PPG Campus provided supporting facilities and rooms to ensure the smooth implementation of the examination.
