Faculty of Medicine Building, FK Online News — The Faculty of Medicine (FK), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, organized a workshop entitled “Precision and Purpose: Designing Impactful MCQs for CBT Excellence” aimed at improving the quality of learning assessment and enhancing lecturers’ capacity in developing Computer-Based Test (CBT) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The workshop was conducted via Zoom Meeting on Wednesday (28-30/1/2026).
Attended by lecturers of the Faculty of Medicine, UIN Jakarta, the workshop was designed to strengthen faculty competencies in constructing MCQs that are valid, reliable, and oriented toward higher-order thinking skills, in order to support the achievement of graduate learning outcomes.
The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine, UIN Jakarta, Dr. dr. Fika Ekayanti, DKK, M.Med.Ed, stated that the activity is expected to serve as a practical guideline for lecturers in designing assessments that not only measure content mastery, but also students’ ability to apply medical knowledge in real-world contexts.
“Well-designed MCQs must be able to assess how students understand their knowledge, apply it in clinical practice, and ultimately be ready to engage directly and contribute to society,” she said.
One of the workshop sessions, entitled “Introduction to the MCQ Assessment,” was delivered by dr. Rahmatina, Sp.DVE., who emphasized that MCQ-based assessments are fundamentally designed to comprehensively measure students’ thinking skills, ranging from conceptual understanding to the application of knowledge in clinical decision-making.
In addition to the lecture sessions, the workshop also included cross-semester MCQ CBT review sessions, covering semester 2, 4, and 6 examinations across various systems and health issues. This session served as a discussion forum for lecturers to ensure that the quality of the questions aligns with learning outcomes and the needs of medical practice.
For information, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are one of the most widely used assessment methods in medical education due to their ability to measure various levels of students’ cognitive abilities. Properly designed MCQs assess not only knowledge acquisition but also critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities required in healthcare services.
