Faculty of Medicine Building, UIN News Online – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has reaffirmed its leadership role in the development of Islamic medical education in Indonesia by hosting the Opening Lecture of the Medical Faculty Consortium of State Islamic Religious Universities (FK PTKIN) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year on Tuesday (September 1, 2026).

Held in a hybrid format at the Prof. MK. Tadjudin Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, UIN Jakarta, the event featured Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., as the keynote speaker. The event was attended by hundreds of new students from seven PTKIN medical faculties across Indonesia: UIN Jakarta, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, UIN Alauddin Makassar, UIN Walisongo Semarang, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, UIN Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Also in attendance were Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., university leaders, and members of the academic community.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta and Chairman of the PTKIN Medical Faculty Consortium, Dr. dr. Ahmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., explained that the consortium, formally established in February 2026, continues to oversee and support the establishment of new medical programs within PTKIN. Under the mentorship of the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta, several prospective medical faculties have made significant progress.

"In addition to the seven medical faculties that are already operational, this afternoon the operational license for the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh was officially issued by the Directorate General of Higher Education. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Raden Intan Lampung has completed its site visit and is now awaiting the official decree, while UIN Mataram is in the final stage of preparation. Aceh and Lampung are under the direct mentorship of the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta, and our target this year is to have at least 10 medical faculties under PTKIN," said Dr. Ahmad Zaki.

In his remarks, Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his pride in the Faculty of Medicine at UIN Jakarta, which has now surpassed two decades of development and has become a driving force in the PTKIN medical faculty network. The Rector also reported to the Minister of Religious Affairs on strategic progress in strengthening UIN Jakarta's clinical education facilities.

"We would like to report to the Minister that Pondok Gede Hospital is currently in the process of being developed into a Main Teaching Hospital. Through this consortium, the PTKIN medical faculties serve as a collaborative platform to strengthen institutional capacity and produce doctors who uphold the integration of knowledge and the principles of humanitarian responsibility," said Prof. Asep.

In his scientific oration, entitled "The Medical Profession as a Humanitarian Trust: Integrating Medicine, Islamic Values, and Love for Humanity," Minister Nasaruddin Umar praised the distinctive curriculum at UINs, which combines excellence in clinical sciences with spiritual depth.

"Sources of knowledge within UINs are not based solely on the reduction of knowledge to human reason, but also encompass inspiration and revelation. The more advanced science becomes, the more the truth of the Qur'an is revealed. Doctors graduating from UINs must regard this profession as a path of love for fellow human beings and service in pursuit of the pleasure of Allah SWT," said the Minister.

Speaking after the event, Minister Nasaruddin reaffirmed the government's full support for the expansion and quality enhancement of medical education at UINs.

"The Ministry of Religious Affairs is prioritizing substantial funding for medical faculties so that we can produce institutions that represent the Muslim community and Muslim doctors who are widely trusted and sought after by society. If they meet the requirements, we encourage all UINs to establish medical programs," he emphasized.

Through this consolidation, UIN Jakarta and its consortium network are committed to continuing their support for the accreditation of medical programs at partner universities, expanding integrated medical research, and strengthening the availability of globally competitive Muslim doctors.
