Proud Achievement: UIN Jakarta Medical Student Publishes Research in Scopus Q1 Journal
Faculty of Medicine Building, FK Online News – Another remarkable achievement has been accomplished by a student of the Faculty of Medicine (FK), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Dinnisa Haura Zhafira Hidayat, a medical student from the 2020 cohort, has successfully published her scientific article in the Journal of International Students, a prestigious international journal indexed in Scopus Q1.
This achievement marks Haura’s third Scopus-indexed publication among approximately 18 scientific articles she has published to date. The accomplishment reflects her consistency and dedication in developing research, particularly in the fields of medical education and health sciences.
The article, entitled “Culture, Language, and Professional Identity: A Narrative Inquiry of an Indonesian Medical Student's Clinical Exchange in Taiwan,” is an output of the Clinical Student Mobility Exchange program that Haura participated in for one month at the Department of Dermatology, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Taiwan.
The study employed a narrative inquiry method with a qualitative self-study approach through daily journal writing and reflective practices during her clinical exchange experience. Through this research, Haura demonstrated that international learning experiences not only enhance medical students’ clinical competencies but also play an important role in shaping their professional identity as future physicians.
The study revealed three major findings: the process of cultural adaptation, highlighting the dynamics of international student interactions in Taiwan; the development of professional identity through observations of local healthcare practices; and the role of language as both a challenge and a bridge in establishing cross-cultural communication and collaboration.
These findings provide new perspectives on the importance of international mobility experiences in medical education, particularly in fostering professionalism, communication skills, and cultural sensitivity required by healthcare professionals in the global era.
“Alhamdulillah, this has been a valuable experience that not only enriched my clinical knowledge but also shaped my perspective as a future physician in engaging with people from different cultural backgrounds,” Haura said.
She hopes that her research will encourage more students to participate in international mobility programs.
“Because the best learning experiences often come from direct experiences in the field,” she added.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UIN Jakarta, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS, expressed his appreciation for Haura’s achievement. He stated that this success demonstrates the ability of FK UIN Jakarta students to compete internationally in academic achievement, clinical practice, and scientific publication.
“We congratulate Dinnisa Haura Zhafira Hidayat on this outstanding international publication. This achievement shows that students of FK UIN Jakarta have the capacity to produce high-quality research that is relevant to the advancement of science at the global level,” he said.
He further emphasized that Haura’s research highlights the importance of international experiences in shaping physicians who are not only academically and clinically excellent but also possess cross-cultural competence, reflective abilities, and strong professional identities.
“We hope this achievement will inspire other students to actively participate in international mobility programs, strengthen the research culture, and continue producing scientific works that contribute to the advancement of medical science and the improvement of healthcare services,” he added.
According to Dr. Zaki, international clinical mobility programs are among FK UIN Jakarta’s strategic initiatives to prepare graduates who are adaptive, competent, and globally competitive. Through various collaborations with overseas teaching hospitals and universities, FK UIN Jakarta continues to provide opportunities for students to expand their academic experiences, build international professional networks, and produce impactful research in medical education.
Haura’s success serves as one of the examples of FK UIN Jakarta’s commitment to fostering a research culture and promoting internationalization among students. The Faculty hopes that more students will take advantage of collaboration opportunities and international mobility programs to develop innovations and scientific publications that contribute to the advancement of medical science at both national and global levels.
