Among those in attendance were the Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. H. Amien Suyitno, M.Ag.; the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D.; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UIN Jakarta, Dr. dr. The forum was officially opened by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D. On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. H. Amien Suyitno also delivered remarks.
In his speech, Prof. Amien Suyitno emphasized that the establishment of the PTKIN Faculty of Medicine Consortium is a strategic step to strengthen the position of medical faculties within PTKIN so that they do not operate independently without integrated policy direction.
“In my view, no faculty or study program should be established without early planning and guidance from the Directorate of Islamic Higher Education (Diktis). The formulation and development must be carefully discussed to ensure they do not run separately without coordination,” he asserted.
He also highlighted the importance of establishing a clear distinction or unique identity for Faculties of Medicine within PTKIN compared to those in other universities. According to him, such distinction cannot merely rely on adding Islamic studies courses, but must be realized through substantive integration between medical sciences and Islamic intellectual traditions.
“As I have repeatedly stated, distinction is essential. Is it sufficient to simply add Islamic or Arabic language courses? I believe that is not enough. The integration of knowledge must be real, not merely formal,” he explained.
Similarly, Rector Asep Saepudin Jahar stated that the presence of the PTKIN Faculty of Medicine Consortium should serve as momentum to strengthen structured and sustainable collaboration. He emphasized that Faculties of Medicine under PTKIN must build clear added value in order to remain competitive while making meaningful contributions to society.
“Faculties of Medicine under PTKIN must offer added value. What should we present to society? It is not enough to simply be a Faculty of Medicine, we must have distinctive strengths,” he said.
Reaffirming the importance of strengthening cooperation in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education—education and teaching, research, and community service—the Faculty of Medicine UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, together with five other PTKIN Faculties of Medicine—Faculty of Medicine Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Faculty of Medicine UIN Alauddin Makassar, Faculty of Medicine UIN Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Faculty of Medicine UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, and Faculty of Medicine UIN Walisongo Semarang—officially agreed to a collaboration signed directly by each Dean and Vice Dean.
Separately, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UIN Jakarta, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, responded positively to the more-than-two-hour consortium meeting. He explained that the consortium was organized to align the steps of the six PTKIN Faculties of Medicine that have now been officially established. The collaboration will encompass integrated aspects of education, research, and community service.
“We now have six Faculties of Medicine under PTKIN. This certainly requires cooperation, coordination, and collaboration to establish a clear distinction for Faculties of Medicine within PTKIN,” he stated.
